About the Author:

Dr Richard Hawkins is the Deputy Head of Exercise Science and has worked for The Football Association since 1997. His main roles and responsibilities are to manage and co-ordinate the successful delivery of scientific physiological support for England Male International Youth Teams and all Female International Teams. His role involves ensuring appropriate liaison and rapport with England Team Management, coaching and support staff, in addition to the medical/exercise science staff of each player’s club is maintained and that specific standards are adhered to throughout the teams.
